MARTIN CHILVERS

Bournemouth based Saxophonist, Teacher and Band Leader

Saxophone Teacher

I am passionate about teaching saxophone and bringing music into my students' lives. I strive to make sure my lessons are fun, productive, and most of all inspiring. I genuinely want to help my students reach their musical goals be it passing grades, playing solo, playing in amateur bands, or even becoming professional musicians themselves.

I teach all ages and styles, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Band Leader & Saxophonist

For the last 10 years I have played in and led a popular Jive/Swing band called "The Regular Joes". We have played all over the country including Buckingham Palace for the Coronation Festival, The Larmer Tree Festival, Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival, Goodwood Revival (5 times!), Hep Cats Holiday, The Big Jive, and many, many more.

I also play Baritone in a 1950's roots R&B/early soul band called "Miss Annie & The Midnight Shift" which is proving to be a hit on the vintage/rockin' scene. We have already played The Heat (Amsterdam), The Big Jive, Atomic Festival and are booked for several more European dates in 2019 (including the Paris Flying Festival).

As a performer I specialise in Baritone saxophone, particularly in (old school) R&B and Swing/Jive bands. I love how the bari is both part of the rhythm section and the horn section - in my mind it really is the king of the saxes! I also play Tenor and Alto saxophone and am happy sight-reading in any setting.
